Chapter 19
A couple of days later, I get a letter in the post telling me that I have been accepted. On January 4th, I have to go for six weeks to a training camp and then I will be on tour after that. I can hear Em in the shower and know that she has been so supportive of this decision, but now I have a date so it is more real now. I am nervous about telling her, so I fold up the letter and put it in my pocket as Stacey comes out of her room.
“Good morning Charlie, isn’t it a beautiful day?”
“Someone is happy this morning, you and Niall are really hitting it off, but you may want to change your prayers, I don’t think god will like you cursing at him.”
She blushes and starts to grin. “He is wonderful and having him here this week has been great. It’s going so well, I am starting to worry.”
I cock my head to the side and frown. “You are worried because it’s going well between the two of you. You realise that’s the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Stace, enjoy every minute of your relationship, he is a great guy and he adores you. Stop fretting about it, yes there will be obstacles but you both will come through them together. He is good for you and you are good for him. I think this is a great match for you. He knows you so well and he knows when to back off and leave you alone.”
She gives me a hug. “Thanks, Charlie, you always know what to say.”
“Always Stace, I am here for you.”
She moves her head. “What’s wrong Charlie, what are you worried about?”
I smile and shake my head. “How do you know that I am worried?”
She laughs. “Because numbnuts, your hug is different. You normally give stronger hugs and I can feel a difference in you, so come on, tell me what’s on your mind.”
I shuffle and sigh. “I got accepted and I have the date for my training to start.”
“That’s great Charlie, this is what you wanted. What’s the problem? Having second thoughts?”
“No, I’m just worried about telling Em. It could change the way we are, she might not want me after this, it’s now a reality.”
I get an almighty thump on the shoulder. “Jesus Stace, wow, what the fuck?”
“You are a numbnut, can you not see that she is in love with you and has shown you that she is here for the long haul. No matter what you have done before, Em is different and she is the one for you, Charlie. You found your one in that beautiful brunette. Don’t put your thoughts on her, she has her own mind and if she didn’t want you, she would have never moved in with you. Tell her about it and yeah, it will probably lead to a sad moment for her, but you are here, and I am here for her and she has her friends too.
